Waarom kunnen je borsten gevoelig aandoen in de overgang?
Vooral tijdens de pre-menopauze kun je er last van krijgen: gevoelige borsten. Je borsten kunnen ineens vaker gespannen zijn en pijn doen. Hoe dat komt? De verhouding oestrogeen en progesteron begint in deze fase van de overgang te veranderen. Er rijpt steeds minder vaak een eitje tijdens de cyclus. Hierdoor maakt je lichaam minder van het hormoon progesteron aan, wat voor gevoelige borsten kan zorgen.
Wat kunnen de verschijnselen zijn van gevoelige borsten?
Om te beginnen: we hebben het over gevoelige borsten, maar de verschijnselen die je ervaart kunnen ook in één borst voorkomen. Maar wat kun je dan voelen? De verschijnselen kunnen op verschillende manieren omschreven worden:
Je borsten voelen gespannen, kunnen zichtbaar gezwollen zijn en soms zelfs zwaar aanvoelen.
- De gevoeligheid die je ervaart kan zeurend, branderig en scherp zijn.
- Je kunt last hebben van steken of krampen in je borsten.
- Je borsten kunnen trekkerig, hard of zelfs stug aanvoelen.
- Ook jeuk aan de tepels en gevoelige tepels komen voor.
Als vrouw kun je hier dus mee te maken krijgen. Vertrouw je je klachten niet? Maak dan altijd een afspraak met je huisarts voor een nader onderzoek.
Wat zijn de gevolgen van gevoelige borsten?
Gevoelige borsten kunnen je ’s nachts wakker houden. Dat komt dan meestal doordat je niet weet hoe je moet gaan liggen, waardoor je de slaap niet kunt vatten. Dat kan je nachtrust behoorlijk verstoren en zorgen dat je overdag vermoeid en humeurig bent. Ook kan pijn in de borsten ervooor zorgen dat je het niet fijn vindt om aangeraakt te worden. Bijvoorbeeld door je partner. Omdat het eenvoudigweg te gevoelig is. En dat kan een behoorlijke wissel trekken op je relatie net als diverse andere overgangsverschijnselen. Denk aan stemmingswisselingen, vermoeidheid, vergeetachtigheid, een verminderd libido bijvoorbeeld.
Wat gebeurt er na de overgang met je borsten?
Na de overgang zijn de verschijnselen meestal wel verdwenen. Toch is de verandering van je borsten vaak nog niet helemaal voorbij. De vermindering van het klierweefsel in de borsten gaat namelijk door. Daardoor kunnen je borsten platter en slapper worden. Ook kunnen ze meer gaan hangen. Andere vrouwen krijgen er juist een paar cupmaatjes bij, omdat de vetopslag in je lichaam tijdens de overgang verandert. Het vet trekt meer naar de buik en borsten en weg van de benen en billen.
Zeven tips bij gevoelige borsten
- Investeer in een goede BH en laat je adviseren
Juist in deze periode kunnen borsten wel wat extra ondersteuning gebruiken. Investeer daarom in een goede en stevige BH. Laat je vooral adviseren! Een deskundige lingerieadviseur weet precies wat jij nodig hebt en welk soort BH bij jou past. Nog een tip: op dagen dat je borsten gespannen en pijnlijk zijn, kan soms een stevige sport-BH net even voor de nodige steun zorgen. - Masseer ze af en toe in met een verzorgende olie
Gespannen borsten kun je wat verlichten door ze te masseren. Maak hierbij kleine cirkelvorige bewegingen met de vingers. Druk vervolgens met je handen je borsten naar binnen en dan omhoog. Heel fijn om dit te doen met een verzorgende olie die je iets verwarmt. - Werp een blik op de bijsluiter van je medicijnen
Sommige medicijnen hebben als bijwerking gespannen of gevoelige borsten. Kijk daarom altijd even in de bijsluiter van de medicijnen die je gebruikt. - Gebruik een warmtekompres
Veel vrouwen vinden verlichting in een warmtekompres, warme kruik of verwarmingskussen. Leg dit kompres in de bh of houd een warme kruik tegen de pijnlijke plek aan. - Neem een warm bad
Net als een warmtekompres, kan ook een warm bad het pijnlijke gevoel iets verzachten. Ga lekker ontspannen liggen en zeep je masserend borsten met aandacht en liefde in. - Drink geen cafeïne
Dat er een link is tussen cafeïne en gevoelige borsten is niet wetenschappelijk bewezen. Toch zag een aantal artsen opvallende verbeteringen, nadat vrouwen met pijnlijke borsten gestopt waren met cafeïne. Dat betekent dus: geen koffie, frisdranken, chocolade, thee en pijnstillers met cafeïne. Het proberen waard? - Kies onverzadigde vetten
Er zijn onderzoeken die zeggen dat je gevoelige borsten kunt krijgen door een gebrek aan onverzadigde vetten in je voeding. Zorg er dus voor dat je die voldoende binnenkrijgt. Onverzadigde vetten vind je onder andere in zonnebloemolie, maïskiemolie en arachideolie. En natuurlijk in vette vis als makreel, zalm en haring. Ook noten bevatten onverzadigde vetten.
